I took both Friday and Monday off for “marathon weekend.” We had plans on Saturday to practice Christy’s trip around Pittsburgh during the race, and to spend time with family in Pittsburgh.
After stopping at Elite Runners & Walkers to compare my new Minimus shoes from New Balance to the Altra’s (more details soon) I headed into town for the Expo. Parking was insane thanks to normal monthly lease holders. Luckily I found a space a few blocks away and headed into the expo.
Since it was just me, I had time to roam around and see each vendor.
I started with my bib and shirt. I’ve really liked the shirts from the Pittsburgh Marathon. Last years was a green long sleeve dry fit shirt. This year, it was a white long sleeve dry fit with blue writing. It’s really nice!
After hitting the bib section, I walked through the official gear section. Most everything was pricey, and I didn’t really like anything enough to spend the cash. I then went to the far end of the expo and was surprised the line for U.S. Olympic medalist Meb Keflezighi was short.
I picked up my bag & official program and had him sign page 22: the one I was interviewed in about technology!
After he signed, he posed for a picture. I had a guy behind me take it. After he reversed the camera to front facing, he somehow changed it to video mode. I was able to just use a screen cap of the 1080p video which means it’s decent quality, but leaves black bars around it.
After the fan boy session, I went through each aisle of the expo. Nothing particular stood out, so I went to the pace team sign up section to add my name to the 4:20 pace group. After about an hour of wandering, and only buying a license plate holder, I headed for home.
Just two days left before the marathon!
